Zoë Saldaña just won the best supporting actress Oscar for her work in Emilia Peréz. In her acceptance speech she focused on being the proud child of immigrant parents, and the first American of Dominican origin to win an Academy Award. Known primarily for her work in science fiction film franchises, she has starred in four of the six highest-grossing films of all time including the top three (Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Avengers: Endgame.) Films she has appeared in have grossed more than $15 billion worldwide. As of 2024, she was the second highest-grossing lead actress and Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.

This was a record high, as the percentage of women in Fortune 500 CEO roles has typically hovered around 10% in recent years, up from 8.2% in 2021 and 6.6% in 2019. Women of color hold only one percent of CEO positions across the Fortune 1000.
