MOMENT IN TIME

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture Museum in Washington D.C. opened a new exhibit in December called: In Slavery’s Wake: Making Black Freedom in the World. It immerses visitors in the freedom-making practices of Black Communities navigating both the histories and legacies of racial slavery and colonialism. This multi-lingual exhibition experience features 100 objects, 250 images, and 10 multi-media interactives and films and is open until June. Tyler Perry is an American actor, film maker, play wright and philanthropist. With an estimated net worth of over $1 billion, Perry has received numerous accolades for his work including the Times list of the 100 Most Influential People, the Governor’s Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, and has been inducted into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame.  Tyler Perry Studios is one of the largest film production studios in the United States, and established Perry as the first African-American to outright own a major film production studio. His charitable foundation, formed in 2006, The Perry Foundation, has a mission of transforming tragedy into triumph by seeding individual potential, supporting communities and harvesting sustainable change. The CDC estimates 80% of pregnancy related deaths could be prevented with proper care and launched the HEAR HER campaign to help provide resources. The campaign seeks to encourage partners, friends, family, coworkers, and providers—anyone who supports pregnant and postpartum people—to really listen when she tells you something doesn't feel right.
