Let's Recognize

September
  National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15th to October 15th. This year’s theme is: Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America."

  September is National Suicide Awareness Month. September 5th-9th is National Suicide Prevention Week, and World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10th. 

■  9/11 Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance is a day to honor the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. On the direction of the President, the flag of the United States should be flown at half-staff as a sign of respect. Many people observe a moment of silence at 8:46am and attend remembrance ceremonies.

 International Day of Peace is observed globally each year on September 21st and was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981. This year’s theme is Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals - a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. 

October
  LGBTQIA+ History Month is celebrated in October and was first observed in 1994. October was selected because the first and second LGBTQIA+ marches for Lesbian and Gay rights on Washington, in 1979 and 1987, were in October.

 Indigenous People’s Day is celebrated on the second Monday of October and honors the history and contributions of Native Americans.

■  World Mental Health Day on October 10th is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. This day, each October, thousands of supporters will celebrate this annual awareness program to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on people's lives worldwide.

 National Coming Out Day is an annual LGBTQIA+ awareness day celebrated on October 11th. It champions the idea that our stories can be powerful for each other, and homophobia thrives in silence 

 

Spirit Day Recommendations

A reminder that every Katz Media employee has one Spirit Day-an 8-hour day that can be used for volunteer work at a charity or non-profit organization. Search "Disability Pride Events" in any browser for ways you can use your Spirit Day this July in support of Disability Pride Month.
